Team Torelli Cycling Club History

Team Torelli Cycling Club started off in the early eighties as Team Sportif Tameside. Originally the idea of two men Tony Creacal a local singer & entertainer and Tony Orrell.

The club flourished and soon a large number of riders who raced at all levels at home and abroad. The club was also active in promoting events including the Minster Finance 500 Professional race which featured all the top UK pro teams including the ANC Halfords Tour de France team.

Tony Orrell left to set up the Neil Orrell Cycle Racing Team which then changed it`s name to Team Orrell.

Team Orrell was hugely successful. Riders like Anton Quist the Pan American Sprint Champion, Rusine Airstone Multi Womens National Champion on road and track. Hamish Haynes British National Elite Road Race winner who went onto a successful pro career in Belgium. Patrick Chilton National Schoolboy Sprint Champion. Andy Orrell who finished 6th in the Tour of Malta Stage Race, Stage winner in the International Rog Tour of Holland, Justin Hoy who won the Green Jersey in the Rog Tour. Alistair Rutherford who finished 3rd Overall in the Rog Tour. Steve Golla 3rd Overall in the Rog Tour. Tony Orrell who won numerous North West Cyclo Cross Titles, Manchester Road Race titles, finished 6th with team mate Andy Marsden in the Championship of Flanders Professional Madison Race, the pair also finished 4th to Olympic Champion Bradley Wiggins and Rob Hayles in the British Madison Championship both went on to have a successful careers in Belgium riding the Track and Road

The club put teams in events across the country and abroad, International Rog Tour of Holland, Race of the Roses Belgium, Tour of Majorca, Tour of Ibiza, RAAS Tour of Ireland, Tour of Malta, Tour of Lancs Pro Am race, Triptyque de Monts and Chateaux France. Plus regular weekend trips to Belgium, France, Belgium, Holland and Ireland.

As well as competing in events the club was active in promoting events everything from circuit races to track to mountain bike events. Members of the club also undertake official duties at Local, National and World Championship level.

Including the British Cycling Friday Night Track League and The ACT Monday night track league run by Tony`s dad Neil.

For the last five years the club as be known as Team Torelli we still take teams over to the continent to race. Not only taking our own riders but promising riders from other local clubs who come and guest for the team. We organise a range of events, last year we organised 3 Sportives and 6 circuit races at the new Ashton circuit. This year we have 2 Mini Sportives, and Series of Sportive Events.

You can also check out our Winter Series we have two events on the 12th of Februray and 26th February. Both events have been designed to get riders fit for the forthcoming Cyclosportive Season with 50 mile and 25 mile distances
Entries will be open shortly.

We have gone back to basics with these events entry fee is just 15.00 in advance online or 20.00 on the day.
Both events still feature, Electronic Timing, Feeding Stations, Support Vehicles, Welll signed routes, Changing Rooms, Ample Parking, Free Hot Drinks, Route Cards, GPS Files.
